Punjab, Haryana paddy arrival crosses 63 lakh tonnes


Chandigarh, Oct 21 (IANS): Over 63 lakh tonnes of paddy has arrived in grain markets of Haryana and Punjab in first 20 days of the procurement process, food and supplies officials of both states said Monday.

According to an official, government agencies and private millers procured over 40 lakh tonnes paddy in Punjab.

Ferozepur, Patiala and Tarn Taran districts have procured maximum paddy so far in the state, he added.

In Haryana, over 23.5 lakh tonnes of paddy has arrived in various grain markets and Kurukshetra, Karnal and Kaithal districts were leading in procurement, an official said.

Procurement of paddy in both states started Oct 1.
