Mumbai, Mar 20: No case of cholera was confirmed in Mumbai as tests conducted on suspected cases have proved negative, even as 21 patients of gastroenteritis were admitted in the state-run hospitals on Monday.
Though the number of cases of gastroenteritis admitted in hospitals is steady for the last three days, tests conducted on four suspected cases of cholera were negative, Dr P Shingare, dean of the state-run J J Group of Hospitals said.
The situation was under control with people receiving timely treatment and many of them have been discharged, Shingare said.
More than 220 patients have been admitted with gastro symptoms in various city hospitals since the past week, mainly from Crawford Market area. Since then, several have been discharged.
All of them complained of diarrohoea and vomiting, two common gastro symptoms.
The Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai (MCGM) Health Department officials have said that the possible cause of gastro was contaminated water-supply.
