Key Taliban commander killed in Afghanistan

Baghdad, Oct 23 (IANS): Security forces have killed a key Taliban commander named Mullah Isa in the western Herat province, an army officer Naqibullah Balouch said Wednesday.

"Acting upon intelligence report, the security forces launched operations in Adraskan district late Tuesday night, killing Taliban's famous commander Mullah Isa and arrested two of his bodyguards," Balouch told Xinhua.

The elimination of Mullah Isa is a big blow to the Taliban militants in the western region, he asserted.

Taliban militants fighting the government and NATO-led forces were yet to make any comment.
