Rupee down 6 paise against dollar in early trade

Mumbai, Oct 24 (PTI): The rupee moved down by 6 paise to 61.65 against the dollar in early trade today on increased demand for the US currency from banks and importers.

A higher opening in the domestic equity market and dollar's weakness against other currencies overseas capped the fall, dealers said.

The rupee had ended six paise higher at 61.59 against the dollar in yesterday's trade.

Meanwhile, the BSE benchmark Sensex recovered by 80.66 points, or 0.39 per cent, to 20,848.
