Jeweller shot dead in Haryana town


Chandigarh, Oct 24 (IANS): A jeweller was shot dead by unidentified assailants in a town in Haryana's Karnal district Thursday, police said.

Narinder Kumar, aged about 40, was shot from close range by one of the two assailants as he was opening his jewellery shop Assandh town of the district, 170 km from here, in the morning. He died on the spot, police said.

Police officials said that they were looking at various aspects behind the murder, including robbery.

Protesting the killing, shopkeepers and residents of the town blocked roads for some time. All business establishments in the town remained shut.
