Muslim leaders say Rahul's statement 'most unfortunate'

Modi to Rahul: Reveal names of youth in touch with ISI or apologise

Updated

Jhansi, Oct 25 (PTI):
Narendra Modi today attacked Rahul Gandhi for saying that ISI was in touch with Muslim youth of Uttar Pradesh's Muzaffarnagar and asked him to reveal the identity of such persons or apologise publicly for levelling "serious allegations" and "defaming" the entire community.

Citing Gandhi's remarks that he had been told about it by intelligence personnel, the BJP's Prime Ministerial candidate questioned why intelligence agencies "report" to Gandhi, "who has never taken oath of secrecy", and brief him on such sensitive matters.

Addressing a rally here, he also said that if the government has information about ISI, Pakistan's intelligence agency, being in touch with some youth in Uttar Pradesh, it should act, rather than "just give the news like a news agency".

Addressing Rahul Gandhi as a 'shahzada' (prince), Modi referred to his comments yesterday and said he levelled "serious allegations against the youth in relief camps (of Muzaffarnagar) that they are hobnobbing with ISI. It is your responsibility to make public the names of such youth...

If you do not disclose the names, then you should apologise publicly for defaming an entire community."

The relief camps were set up for the victims of riots in Muzaffarnagar that took place last month.

On Gandhi's contention about ISI hobnobbing, he said told the Congress Vice President that his party was in power and asked "how is ISI freely spreading its influence in the lanes of UP under your very nose? What are you doing about it?"

Targeting the Congress and its government over it, Modi said, "you are behaving as a news agency, just giving news about what ISI is doing. You have to act against them."

Rahul playing politics with riots, statement unfortunate: Muslim leaders

Lucknow, Oct 25 (IANS): Muslim clerics Friday slammed Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi's statement that some Muslim youths from riots-ravaged Muzaffarnagar in Uttar Pradesh were in touch with Pakistan's intelligence agency ISI, and said these were "most unfortunate".

Maulana Saif Abbas Naqvi, a prominent Shia cleric, said such statements not only painted the Muslim community in bad light but also strengthened the communal forces. He said these were a "grave insinuation" on millions of peace loving and patriotic Muslims in the country.

He also alleged that instead of understanding the plight and pain of the riot victims, the Gandhi scion was playing politics with the communal riots and the victims.

Shahar Qazi, Maulana Abul Irfan Miyan Farangi Mahali, said the statement of Rahul Gandhi was "most unfortunate" and demanded an immediate and unconditional apology from the Congress leader.

"It does not behove leaders of a national party like the Congress to give such cheap and hurtful statements against the Muslims...we are patriotic and would do anything for India" he said in a statement.

Maulana Kalbe Sadiq, senior vice-president of the All-India Muslim Personal Law Board, also said that anyone who casts aspersions on the integrity and loyalty of the minorities for the country was doing a great dis-service to the country and the Muslims.

At an election rally in Indore Thursday, Rahul Gandhi had made a sensational claim that singed by the riots and killings in Muzaffarnagar district of the state, many Muslim youth were in touch with Pakistan's intelligence agency ISI (Inter-Services Intelligence). The riots and communal violence in the district in September had left 62 dead and 43,000 homeless.

Mr. Modi may be aware the release of dreaded terrorists during the Kandahar plane hijack on December 24, 1990. In India today if we are facing the worst ever terrorist attacks, the master mind behind these is the released dreaded terrorist Mazoor and his team. A decade after the hijacking of an Indian Airlines plane, the chief Indian negotiator who engaged the hijackers blamed the then NDA government for its 'diplomatic failure' in their inability to make the US and the UAE use their influence to help secure a quick release of the passengers. K Doval, the former Intelligence Bureau chief, who led the four-member negotiating team to Kandahar, even went to the extent of calling the 'diplomatic failure' a 'bloody disgrace' for India.

He regretted that the government was unable to put up an effective case about the hijack crisis before the international community. The former intelligence chief also went on to say that possibly the American ambassador to India at that point had not been even contacted. India is paying a heavy price for this cowardly act of the then NDA govt. Namo instead of attacking the Govt. should apologize the nation on behalf of his party for this serious diplomatic failure and blunder

He can become a good leader and may change india to a developed country but our dirty politicians will not allow him to do. One thing we all must agree is that we being common people and all our comments on this article shows that being common citizen, and we do not get anything from these dirty politician still we have so much bitterness about each party and we show that in our comments on this column. For your kind information, corruption is a issue to be taught in each and every families. Politicians cannot solve this problem.

This entails an enormous process and determination within and among the citizens themselves.

    Simple example:

If i am in the Q/in line to have my turn to come, some one from behind us without waiting in the Q/in the line will accomplish his job before our turn comes.

In vain we are standing in the Q and wasting our precious time.

Problem with the Sangh supporters is they are used to fake stories of their leader and when somebody speaks the truth they just cannot take it anymore. That is why there are so many comments when Rahul speaks.

If same thing would have been told by the fake leader then it would have been considered as brave and patriotic statement. When Prime Minister Nominee opens his mouth you can expect always lies and sarcastic comments on opponents. This is considered as brave speech by these Sangh supporters.

If you watch Rahul speaking, he speaks truth as common man without offending anybody but when the so called brave and patriotic leader speaks he always lie and give fake illustrations to show opponents in poor light and not only that makes fun of them.

Rahul do not have the luxury of the fake leader to speak anything. Rahul has to behave responsibly being with the family background which has given three successful prime ministers to our country.

    Dear Mr. Praveen,

Do not get upset. I am only against Sangh Parivar ideology which is only to divide the people of religious lines and no way helping unity and integrity of our country. I had Sevadal training in my childhood which is similar to RSS when it comes to social service but with one big difference. We were taught of unity and integrity but in RSS hatred with other religion is taught from day one which only divide the country further.

Also I do not like fake people and leaders who are spreading hatred and trying to make every lie a truth.

There is no reason for me being frustrated. I am not member of any political party but admirer of Congress philosophy. At the same time I would also put the records straight that many leaders in Congress do not follow this philosophy and that is the reason Congress is in difficult situation now.

I am also not worried about the results in 2014 elections. Whatever the results it will be decision of people and we all abide by such decision

    Dear Mr. Praveen,

I do not know which age group you belong. But for your information there was a political outfit called Jana Sangh in my childhood days and BJP is continuation of that after Janata Party was dissolved after a short stint.

You seem to be RSS Shaka trained and say that RSS never taught divide the people on religious lines. If so kindly clarify the following:

Why did it take active part in Babri demolition?
Why it is having different yardsticks in defining terrorist activities of different communities?
What was part it played during Godra? Did it try to stop the riots or did it ignite the Godra riots?
Whether it works for religious harmony or work otherwise. Pakistani flag was hoisted in Hubli by Sangh Parivar for communal tension, what is the view of RSS, does it condemn the incident?
As per RSS what is nationalism? Is it related to any religion?
Do you consider India a secular country or Hindu Rashtra?

I agree with you that during national calamities RSS takes part to assist the people along with other social organisations & NGOs. Only difference is RSS volunteers go there wearing Kaki shorts. Do you think advertisement is required during social work?

Before making sweeping comments on others knowledge Mr. Praveen you should be little careful.

What is there to make a big hue and cry over this. Everyone knows that ISI is not losing any opportunity to create unrest in the country. Whenever, communal riots take place, ISI is poking its dirty nose and lures the youth of this country. The critics of his statement also know the naked truth. Thats why this criticism is it only for the sake of criticism?

Rahul Gandhi’s disclosure of ISI being in touch with some youths of a particular community should not be taken out of context. He referred to certain individuals (and such subverts are found in all communities) and not to the entire community. Indeed, it is unfortunate that it has become difficult to comment even on a common criminal because of his religious affiliation. Long live India! Where are the Indians?

IB says it doesnt breif RG as he is not anywhere in the ministry whether ISI informs him directly needs to be investigated.f Modi had said this most political parties and most journalists would have been blazing guns at him and he would be shown as showing his true communal color but for Rahul Gandhi their are different lenient standards which permits him to get away with statements like this and permits media to ignore it.

For God's sake political parties, pls understand each and every citizen and their

If congress wants to have a decent chance of winning (Currently they have no chance) they must Rahul as a lead campaigner. Congress is facing major trouble that there is no decent candidates for next PM post post. Rahul is considerably destroying Congress chances. He has no charisma whatsoever of pulling votes. He can only reduce the votes of congress. He has no caliber whatsoever. He has been surving just because he is Gandhi family son. If health permits only possibility for congress to project Sonia as next PM candidate.Thats the one and only hope. She has a charisma much better than Rahul. She can give some sort of fight to opposition

Some very critical questions arise out of Rahul Gandhi's statement. Foremost amongst them is how and why did an intelligence officer divulge this information to an ordinary MP like Rahul Gandhi ? Why was he made privy to such sensitive intelligence when he is not in any official government position. Second on knowing this why did Rahul Gandhi divulge this sensitive information in public ? Has the information been verified before being put out in the public domain and is the military and political leadership aware of this. It looks like in their quest for winning the next elections the political parties are throwing all basic principles of governance to the winds. Each political party is outdoing the other in being more Irresponsible.
