Billiards: Alok Kumar, Shandilya lose


Leeds, Oct 30 (IANS): Indian challenge in the points format World professional billiards championship ended as both national champion Alok Kumar and Ashok Shandilya lost their respective semi-final matches here.

Alok Kumar, finalist in the 150-up format last week, squandered a handy lead to allow Singapore’s Peter Gilchrist scramble to a 1250-916 win, while David Causier, winner of the 150-up format title, lined himself up for a double after defeating Shandilya 1250-710 in the semi-finals Tuesday.

The results (semi-finals, high breaks):
Peter Gilchrist (SING) bt Alok Kumar (IND) 1250 (158, 110, 112, 265, 135)-916 (174, 138, 151); David Causier (ENG) bt Ashok Shandilya (IND) 1250 (112, 187, 229, 120)-710 (149, 100).
