Mob vandalises 26 houses of Hindus in Bangladesh

Dhaka, Nov 4 (PTI): A mob went on the rampage in a Hindu- dominated neighbourhood in a village in Bangladesh's Pabna district following reports that a boy from the minority community had committed blasphemy, prompting the country's High Court to order arrest of attackers within 24 hours.

The mob attacked the Hindu neighborhood at Bonogram village in Santhia upazila in Pabna district on Saturday, vandalising 26 houses, damaging several idols and forcing about 150 families to flee the area.

The incident prompted the High Court to take suo motu cognisance, asking the Inspector General of Police to ensure the arrest of the culprits within 24 hours and deployment of adequate police forces in the area to protect the minorities.

"We have arrested nine of the perpetrators of the attack in the past two days and are looking for the others," officer in-charge of the local police station Rezaul Karim told PTI.

He said that most of the suspects belonged to supporters or activists of main opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party or their crucial ally Jamaat-e-Islami while the scene was the home of the fundamentalist party's chief Matiur Rahman Nizami, who is being tried for 1971 crimes against humanity.

"The situation here is now normal," Karim said.

The High Court bench comprising judges Quazi Reza-Ul Hoque and ABM Altaf Hossain also asked the police chief to launch a probe into the attack and assess the amount of loss it caused and submit the report before the court.

The media reports, meanwhile, came up with a finding that a group of extortionists, mostly belonging to the BNP and their fundamentalist ally Jamaat-e-Islami, had planned to frame Hindu schoolboy Rajib Saha for maligning Islam after his businessman father refused to pay them.

The Daily Star newspaper said it found that the Facebook page, photocopies of which were used to incite the attacks, had no links with Rajib.

The reaction may be quick now, but it is very late, i.e.,after 66 years of partition, after destroying more than 50% of the Hindu population there.

Understand the plight of Hindus in Pakistan and Bangladesh.

Successive governments in both the countries have supported the atrocities on Hindus by fundamentalists.

Due to this Hindu population in both the countries has greatly reduced.

They are denied their religious freedom and subjected to blasphemy laws.

But, in our country political parties are supporting the same fundamentalists for vote bank politics.

Please wake up and protect yourself.

'Religion' is a slow poison for the
    development/Progress of the Country
where MORE THAN ONE religion is involved.
Therefore Politics should never get involved/mixed with Religion.
    These two are not correlated.

when some Indian writers wrote Books about Gujarat riot of 2002, these Indian writers got various awards within India as well as outside India.
But when Tasleema Nasreen wrote about genocide of 30,000 Hindus in Bangla and destruction of hundreds of Hindu Temples Post-Babari demolitions, there were attempts on her life and she had to flee Bangladesh due to Fatwa. Even in India she was attacked by fanatic Indian Muslims even though she has not written even a single word against any Religion.
Such is the narrow-mindedness of some Religious groups in Bangladesh and also India.

    Get your facts.
Here below Tasleema Nasreen wrote few lines in her book "Shame" which you tried to misdirect the viewers...
"The animosity and bloodletting between Muslim and Hindu extremists on the Indian subcontinent is centuries old. When the Barbri Mosque at Ayodhya, India, was destroyed by Hindu fundamentalists on December 6, 1992, fierce mob reprisals took place against the Hindu minority in Muslim Bangladesh".

What will the government of India do in Bangladesh, when they can not do anything in India? The 200 odd Nigerians had the audocity to block the highway at Goa. That too we are told who are illegally staying in India. Can this happen anywhere else in the world? As far as Bangla Desh is concerned, they should not forget that it is the Indian people who fed their refugees during the 1971 war. They should have been eternally grateful to India for this noble and charitable act.

Ms. Jaimini: I'd like to draw your attention to the fact that there are ungrateful people everywhere in the world: That is not to suggest that every political outfit of that country thinks in the same way:As a solution to your grouse, India must not (has not) fall into sentimental relationships with other countries. Especially neighboring ones. What ever the relationships are they should be strategic. Indian govt has already done a great deal in that regard: They've successfully negotiated BD govt on the handing over of MNLF terrorists who had taken refuge there. Bangladeshi govt (the present secular govt) has handed over a few Muslim fundamentalists to India. That's what is called stratgic relationship. It is same as US - PAk relationship:

Second: our borders are porous enough for refugees to sneak in: THat does happen even in USA: Read Yday's news in NDTV, Mexicans are sneaking into the US in a big way: Rehabilitating refugees is humanitarian issue which Idnian govt should do unlike Europian countries. These EU countries are exclusivist zones. They are ready to give haven to whom they want but not those desprately seeking refuge in them.

This destructive culture of Mob is not due to creation of Bangladesh!
Even if Bangladesh was part of Pakistan, such HIGHLY DEPLORABLE incidents would have happened like take place also in Pakistan!
It is mindset/thought process of the fundamentalists!
    Very difficult to change!
They are Ungrateful to India, yes! But separating Bangladesh helped India, so enemy Country became quite weak to attack us often!

Sad, to say the least. Bangladesh is going for elections in the coming months. Sheikh Hasina is a secular politician and Prime Minister of Bangladesh. To subvert her rule and to make sure fundamentalists come to power in the next elections, Islamists are trying to polarise the voters ( A similar situation happening here in UP) Hope secular minded government comes to power once again in BDesh. This SHasina govt delivered death sentence to Islamic fundamentalists recently. Further, the judiciary of that country is doing a great job, thanks to India's great secular credentials. Every neighbor of India looks up to us for this. Hope Indian voters intelligibly vote in teh next elections to bring secular govt to power. This will send a right message to all neighboring countries: so much so even Pakistan will gradually accept secularism: because in the longer run Secularism, delinking religion from governance is the only way out!
