Mangalore, Mar 30: At a press conference held here on Wednesday, Karnataka Media Academy chairman V N Subba Rao announced the names of winners of the annual awards given away by the Academy to journalists for their outstanding contribution to th field of journalism with accent on social causes.

The 15 winners of these national-level awards for this year include K S Sachidananda Murthy, New Delhi resident editor of 'The Week' and N Gururaj, editor of Udayavani Kannada daily, Manipal. Celebrated cartoonist Ponnappa also is in the list of winners.

The other awardees are:

R P Jagadish of Prajavani
K Gopinath, photographer, The Hindu
Munjane Satya, electronic mediaperson, Bangalore
Dr Vijaya, film journalist, Bangalore
K H Savitri, Samyukta Karnataka, Bangalore
Rafi Bhandari, Bijapur
R T Majjagi, Hubli
Indudhar Honnapur, Bangalore
K Ramakrishna, Raichur
S Ranganath, Hassan
H L Keshava Murthy, Mandya
Eechanur Kumar, Mysore

The award carries a cash purse of Rs 15,000, besides a memento and citation.

The awards, along with other category awards to be announced later, will be presented at a function to be held in Bangalore in the third week of April, 2006 where CM Kumaraswamy and DyCM Yediyurappa will be present.
