Mangalore, Mar 30: The Pandeshwar police on Wednesday March 29 have arrested two persons while trying to sell ivory near city railway station.
The arrested have been identified as Shivraj (28), son of Bhirappa Gowda, M C Halli, Tarikere and Rajesh Achari (40), son of the late Manjappa Achari of Chandravalli in N R Pura taluk.
The police also seized a piece of ivory from them. During the investigation, they revealed that one more piece of ivory had been hidden in one Sachindra's house at Kalkere of Koppa taluk in Chikamagalur district.
The Pandeshwar police raided his house on Thursday March 30 morning and arrested him along with the ivory piece which was hidden in a bush in front of his house.
The accused had removed the ivory from a dead elephant in the Maduguni reserve forest near Sangameshwarpet of Chikamagalur on July 4, 2003.
The total value of the seized ivory is said to be Rs 2.50 lac, said the Pandeshwar police sources.
