Revival of Tamil Nadu film city being pushed

Chennai, Nov 5 (IANS): The Film Employees Federation of South India (FEFSI) has urged the Tamil Nadu government to revive the film city here or sanction a new facility to enable shootings of Tamil films within the state.

"The members of FEFSI headed by president Ameer Sultan will meet Chief Minister J. Jayalalitha Tuesday with a memorandum of requests and press for immediate revival of the film city in Taramani," read an official statement from FEFSI Tuesday.

"It would help filmmakers and producers to shoot most of their films in the state instead of shooting in neighbouring states where they have to encounter strict policies," Sultan said.

Originally launched in the 1990s, the film city in Taramani is rarely used for film shootings nowadays as a major chunk of its land has been used to build an Information Technology (IT) park.
