Fraser-Pryce shortlisted for Female Athlete of the Year

Monaco, Nov 6 (IANS/CMC): Triple gold medallist Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce of Jamaica tops a list of three sportswomen shortlisted for the 2013 IAAF Female World Athlete of the Year award.

Fraser-Pryce joins her compatriot Usain Bolt as the only nominees from the Caribbean among the finalists, reports CMC.

Both Jamaicans won three gold medals at the 2013 IAAF World Championships in Athletics in Moscow last August.

Also selected for the female award are current 400 metres hurdles world champion Zuzana Hejnova of Czech Republic and four-time shot put world champion Valerie Adams of New Zealand.

Adams is the first woman to win four consecutive individual titles at the world track and field championships - 2007, 2009, 2011 and 2013.

Bolt, Mo Farah and Bohdan Bondarenko are the finalists for the Male World Athlete of the Year award.

The Council of the International Athletics Foundation will select the male and female winners, with the announcement taking place live on stage during the 2013 World Athletics Gala in Monaco Nov 16.
