Police imposters rob businessman of Rs.27 lakh


New Delhi, Nov 10 (IANS): Some unidentified people disguised as Delhi Police officers robbed Rs.27 lakh from a scrap dealer here, police said Sunday.

Shakeel of Ghaziabad's Loni area was returning home after collecting the money from his business associates in Delhi when the accused stopped his two-wheeler in east Delhi's Nand Nagri Saturday around 10 p.m.

On the pretext of checking the documents of Shakeel's two-wheeler, the accused took out the money.

Upon reaching home, the victim found the money was missing.

"A case regarding the incident has been registered, but we are still verifying the exact amount robbed by the accused," said a police officer.

In the preliminary inquiry, it was learnt that the robbed amount was actually Rs.1.50 lakh against the victim's claim of Rs.27 lakh, the officer said.

A hunt is on to nab the accused, said the officer.
