Saudi's Biggest Loser: 610kg boy loses 150kg

Riyadh, Nov 11 : A Saudi teen age boy who weighed around 610kg a few months ago has lost 150kg since he was admitted to a specialised hospital in the Gulf Kingdom for treatment.

Khalid Shaeri now weighs nearly 460kg and doctors said they expected his weight to continue falling in response to medical treatment, dieting and exercise.

More than 30 medical staff members and civil defence men used a special crane and bed imported from the United States to move Shaeri to King Fahd Medical City in the capital Riyadh nearly four months ago.

Shaeri, who was believed to be the heaviest man in the world before treatment, had been confined to his room for many years because of his weight caused by health problems before he was carried to hospital on orders by King Abdullah.

“We believe he will continue to lose weight and will be able to have a normal life,” Dr Ayed Al Qahtani, a consultant at the hospital, told Sabq newspaper.
