Gunmen kill four in Nigeria

Lagos, Nov 12 (IANS): At least four persons were confirmed dead in Nigeria's central northern state of Kogi where suspected gunmen attacked a police station, local authorities said Tuesday.

State police spokesperson Romanus Nwaneri told reporters in Lokoja, the capital of Kogi, that three policemen attached to the station and an unidentified civilian lost their lives during the attack Monday, Xinhua reported.

Nwaneri said the gunmen, numbering about 20, attacked the Osara police station with dynamite but met with heavy resistance from security men on the ground.

The police spokesperson said no arrest was made and that an investigation has been launched.

Nigeria is facing security challenges in its northern part where three states have been in a state of emergency in the fight against the militant sect of Boko Haram.
