GMR's Odisha plant second unit starts operation


Bhubaneswar, Nov 12 (IANS): Global infrastructure major GMR Group Tuesday said the second unit of its coal-based 1,400 mega watt (MW) power plant in Odisha has started commercial operation.

The GMR Kamalanga Energy Limited (GKEL) is setting up 4x350 MW coal-based power plant at Kamalanga in Dhenkanal district, about 100 km from the state capital Bhubaneswar, in two phases of 3x350 MW and 1x350 MW, respectively.

The first unit of 350 MW commenced generation April 30. The second unit of 350 MW started commercial operation Monday, the company said in a statement.

Power produced from GKEL is being supplied to GRIDCO Limited in Odisha in line with the long-term Power Purchase Agreement. Besides Odisha, GKEL would supply power to Haryana, Bihar and other parts of the country.
