Kolkata, Nov 12 (IANS): British Prime Minister David Cameron will have a six-hour stopover in the city Thursday on way to Sri Lanka, and efforts are on to arrange a meeting between him and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, an official said.
Cameron would be arriving in the eastern metropolis, which was the capital of British India till 1912, in the afternoon from Delhi and fly out in the evening.
The British prime minister is scheduled to visit Akashvani Bhavan, the All India Radio headquarters in Kolkata around 3 p.m.
During his hour-long stay at the heritage building, Cameron would give an interview that will also be broadcast by the BBC.
Around 5 p.m., Cameron would reach the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) campus in the city's southern outskirts of Joka for an interactive session with students. Some industrialists are also likely to be invited for the programme.
A top government official said discussions are on to arrange a meeting between Cameron and Banerjee.
Because of protocol, the British prime minister cannot go to the temporary state secretariat Nabanna in neighbouring Howrah district.
"The venue and timing of the meeting are being discussed," the official said.
Cameron would leave for Sri Lanka in the evening.
