Brazil World Cup stadium 90 percent complete

Rio de Janeiro, Nov 13 (IANS): Construction work on Brazil's Arena Amazonia World Cup stadium is 90 percent complete, authorities said Tuesday.

Work on a steel structure to support the venue's roof was completed Tuesday, ending one of the most important phases of the stadium's development, Xinhua quoted World Cup project coordinator Miguel Capobiango as saying.

"It's an imported structure that requires special logistics," Capobiango said. "Now the heavy machinery will be taken away and we will begin the final detailing phase."

Located in the Amazonian city of Manaus, the 44,000-capacity stadium is one of 12 Brazilian venues to be used during the World Cup from June 12 to July 13 next year.

Capobiango said the stadium was on target to be ready by the December deadline set by world football's governing body FIFA.
