Montevideo, Nov 13 (IANS): The Uruguayan Football Association (UFA) wants national team coach Oscar Tabarez to stay on, regardless of the outcome of the upcoming two-game playoff between the country's football team and Jordan for a chance to take part in the 2014 Brazil World Cup.
"In no way can the process of the lineup's training under Tabarez be wasted or interrupted," Sebastian Bauza, UFA president, said Tuesday, reports Xinhua.
Interviewed in Amman, Jordan, where the first playoff match takes place Wednesday, Bauza pointed out the "good results (Tabarez) has brought about for the national team."
Tabarez, 66, returned as coach of the Uruguayan national team in 2006, leading the team first to fourth place at the 2010 South Africa World Cup.
Donato Rivas, the UFA's director of national teams, said, he "wants to keep Tabarez on in some capacity, whatever he decides."
"I don't know if he will want to continue coaching," said Rivas, adding "for us, the experience has been brilliant."
