Sachin will fade away after he retires: Miandad

Karachi, Nov 13 (PTI) : Pakistan's former Test captain Javed Miandad feels veteran batsman Sachin Tendulkar will fade from public memory once he retires after the second Test against West Indies as he is leaving the stage at a time when the Indian cricket team has found some exciting talent to fill the void.

"The nature of the cricket fans in this region is such that if a player tries to prolong his international career they tend to forget him soon after he retires," Miandad told PTI.

Tendulkar has announced he will retire after the second Test which begins tomorrow. Miandad said he himself had made the mistake of trying to prolong his career and it didn't end well for him.

"I must admit, unlike others, I feel that Tendulkar should have retired earlier...and he is now going at a time when India has found some very talented batsmen who are now the reigning heroes and idols of the people," Miandad said.

Miandad said Tendulkar was deservedly getting a lot of adulation and tributes in the run up to his final match.

"It is good to see this because Tendulkar deserves all this respect and tributes he has contributed a lot to Indian cricket over the years and his place among the master batsmen of the modern era is guaranteed," Miandad added.

"I would recommend him as a role model for all young cricketers in all the cricket playing nations."

The former Pakistani batting supremo saw Tendulkar make his Test debut in Karachi in 1989 and said the teenager had impressed everyone and also fulfilled the vast potential and talent he had.

"There is no use talking about his greatness as a player but I think in the subcontinent, players like us must know when it is the right time to go," Miandad said.

Miandad said that in the subcontinent the adulation top players got made it difficult for them to decide when was the right time for them to retire and this had happened with many greats in the past.

"India is lucky they have unearthed a new generation of top batsmen and this is why I don't think Tendulkar will be missed that much," he said.

Miandad admitted he had also tried to prolong his career when he should have left.
"So when I did eventually go people didn't miss me that much...in Tendulkar's case also there have been calls for his retirement since last year.

"I thought after India won the 2011 World Cup at home he should have announced his retirement it would have been the perfect farewell for Indian cricket fans and for him."

Miandad said he would like to see legendary players in the subcontinent being honoured the same way Tendulkar is being honoured before his final test.

Jack's Kallis is better than Sachin and whenever the team in a crisis he stood rock solid to South Africa team unlike Sachin get's out cheaply during pressure moments of the game. Most will rate Rahul Dravid is the better batsmen in test cricket over Sachin.

Interpol should first see how deep Miandad is in the underworld. He is another one in the list of Pakistani cricketers who are tainting the cricketing legacy of the country. Another black sheep who besmirches the sport in their country. A person fades over time if he had not offered the best service. That's y many great batsmen m8 fall in2 oblivion. Looking at the records Sachin has conjured over the yrs it is inconceivable some will even be revealed. Miandad is certainly not an exemplary batsman. He m8 make it to the all time Pak 11 bt even that m8 b a possibility in the future. So such cheap publicity is unsolicited

    For Justice,

In my opinion he had two dimensions in his game both playing fair cricket for the country and creating his own records. No harm.
The question is whether he was involved in any match fixing or bad cricketing. kutlees (from 90 onwards) is true and that is a crucial moment where cricketer tries to play cautiously to reach to a century and achieve the goal. Even playing rash strokes may not help at that juncture. (Very few cricketers are blessed with such a dynamic confidence)
Let us hold Sachin’s name with high esteem.

Today people even forgot football legend PELE, Hockey legend Dhyanchand, boxer Mohd.Ali.Athlete Jessy Owens,Tennis superstars Bjorn Borg, McEnroe,Connors,Pete Sampras,Martina Navrotilova etc. Now it is Virat Kholi's era and people love him while batting and Tendulkar is totally off color in the Team and Miandad's comments are justified

Ismail Shaikh, Sachin's greatness comes from the fact that he is not only a good cricketer who has created new records but also from the fact that he is a real gentleman and down to earth guy.

But the question arises only when he was batting "kutlees"in or around 90's,after using so many balls to achieve his personal century, can anyone say that he was playing for winning the match rather than his individual records?

As our MAMU rightly said that after all he too a human being and can make mistakes, but this is a grave one isn't it?

This is the difference in thinking & attitude between him & Sachin. He feels it is better to leave the team when the team is dependent on you & will miss you & keeps talking about you as if you were indispensable forever. The great searching thought otherwise. Instead he is leaving when the he has made the team less dependent on him i.e. independent and stronger & since made himself dispensable & unlike miandad like thinking the team and nation will remember him forever for that. Sachin made the team learn to fight through true inspirational examples which sets fire for future heros and victories of india Mr Miandad. For that he will be remembered. Not for finding out the best time to leave the team when you are feeling the most needed to show your importance so that for years and years people will remember you.

I can't agree with Miandad fully. But I can't deny his comment too. The explanation given by Javed is very correct. New Indian talents may erase Sachin's glory for some time but not permanently. Javed never spoke anything negative against Sachin so far like Ricky Ponting or Ghilcrist. He once even advised Pak cricketers to follow Sachin..!! Javed Miandad was being called "street fighter" in his playing era. When fast bowler Dennis Lillee tried to insult(sledge) him in a test match in Australia, Miandad raised his bat and tried to hit him too !! He hit a glorious century in the very next test match. Lilllee clapped in good spirit. Javed Miandad is the man who showed the cricket world that match could be won in the last ball !! How can cricket lovers forget his famous Sharjah Six of the last ball of the match off Chetan Sharma..!! Both Miandad and Sachin gave DIVINE touch to cricket..
