Man found burnt dies in Delhi hospital

New Delhi, Nov 13 (IANS): Uday Chand, a 50-year-old man who was found burnt under mysterious circumstances in the capital, succumbed to his injuries Wednesday in a hospital, police said.

Family members alleged that Chand, the father of auto-rickshaw driver Naveen, was harassed by two policemen, who tried to extort money from him for parking his son's auto.

He was found burnt Saturday night near his home in Neb Sarai area in south Delhi.

The man underwent treatment at Safdarjung hospital, but succumbed to his 90 percent burn injuries, said a police officer.

Family members said the two police constables, Rajkumar and Surender, had poured petrol on Chand and set him on fire when he refused to pay them money.

While the family has demanded the arrest of the two policemen, authorities have denied the accusations.
