'Sochi Winter Olympics doping lab being investigated'

Johannesburg, Nov 15 (IANS): The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) has discovered problems with a drug-testing laboratory for the Sochi Winter Olympics three months from now, WADA President John Fahey disclosed during the fourth World Conference on Doping in Sports.

WADA confirmed Thursday that it is probing "a matter" with the laboratory located in Moscow, John Fahey refused to say what the problem is or to give any further details, reports Xinhua.

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) medical commission chairman Arne Ljungqvist said the organisation had been aware of the problems, and is waiting for the investigation results.

The Sochi Winter Olympics will take place from Feb 7-23, 2014, followed by the Paralympic Winter Games March 7.

The WADA-accredited lab has been used for drug tests during the Moscow athletics World Championships in August.
