DMRC to run trains frequently during trade fair


New Delhi, Nov 15 (IANS): Expecting a huge rush at the India International Trade Fair (IITF), the Delhi Metro is increasing frequency of its trains and taking other measures to facilitate visitors, it said here Friday.

"DMRC (Delhi Metro Rail Corporation) will be running peak hour frequency of two minutes 40 seconds from Dwarka to Yamuna Bank from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. to manage crowds in Metro," said a Metron official.

He said two trains on each Line would be kept as standby during the trade fair to ease passenger handling, whenever required.

A total of 24 token counters with separate counters for specific token denominations and destinations would be put up at Pragati Maidan Metro station on working days. During weekends and holidays, the number of these counters would go up to 32, he added.

The India International Trade Fair, 2013, at Pragati Maidan would be held from Nov 14-Nov 27. At least 20 smart card counters would be operating within the Pragati Maidan from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. near Gate No. 10.

Additional customer facilitation agents (CFAs) would be deployed at the Central Secretariat, Rajiv Chowk, Kashmere Gate stations for guiding and managing the crowd of visitors.

Extra security guards would also be deployed at Pragati Maidan Metro station. To ensure faster security clearance of the commuters, additional Door Frame Metal Detectors and extra X-Ray machines have been installed.

At Pragati Maidan, queue managers were put for physical segregation of the entry and exit points of the visitors.

"This will help in avoiding cross movements and crowding near Automatic Fare Collection (AFC) gates," explained a DMRC official.

Directional signage indicating the way towards the platforms, tokens, entry and exit points, security messages, system maps, fare charts, passenger information, last train and token timings, time of opening of counters are also put up at required locations.
