Kolkata, Nov 16 (IANS): With the government Saturday announcing Bharat Ratna for cricket genius Sachin Tendulkar, former hockey great and Olympian Gurbux Singh said hockey wizard Dhyan Chand was more deserving.
“I congratulate Sachin for getting Bharat Ratna, but at the same time I feel Dhyan Chand should have been given the honour. If not earlier, the government should have given him alongside Sachin,” Singh, an Olympic gold medalist, told IANS.
Tendulkar and eminent scientist C.N.R. Rao have been awarded the Bharat Ratna, India's highest civilian honour, the Prime Minister's Office announced Saturday.
Tendulkar, who bid adieu to the game Saturday after playing his 200th Test match, became the first sportsperson to get the country’s highest civilian honour.
