Police arrest key Taliban commander in Afghanistan


Kabul, Nov 17 (IANS): Police captured key Taliban commander Mullah Sohbatullah in Afghanistan's northern Jauzjan province Saturday, Xinhua reported quoting a police official as saying.

"Based on intelligence report, our troops raided a house in provincial capital Shiberghan city today and captured Mullah Sohbatullah alive," said Abdul Manan Raufi, a senior police official.

The Taliban commander was charged with organising suicide and roadside bombings in Jauzjan and surrounding provinces, he added.

Previously, the security forces raided a Taliban hideout in Panjwai district of Kandahar province and killed Taliban commander Mawlawi Hekmatullah Friday.
