Three killed in Iraq bomb attacks

Baghdad, Nov 17 (IANS): A series of bomb attacks, including two suicide bombings, struck the city of Tuz-Khurmato in northern Iraq Sunday, killing at least three people and wounding dozens of others.

The attacks occurred before noon when two suicide bombers and nine roadside bombs ripped through Tuz-Khurmato, some 200 km north of Iraq's capital Baghdad, a local police source told Xinhua.

"There is no immediate report about the exact number of casualties,” the police said.

The ethnically-mixed city of Tuz-Khurmato is part of the disputed area claimed by the Kurds, the Arabs and the Turkomans.

The Kurds want to incorporate the area on the edge of their Kurdistan region.

Iraq is witnessing its worst eruption of violence in recent years. According to the UN Assistance Mission for Iraq, almost 7,000 Iraqis were killed and over 16,000 others injured from January to October this year.
