Man arrested for acid attack on girl in Delhi

New Delhi, Nov 18 (IANS): A 23-year-old Delhi man, who was on the run after he threw acid on a girl who spurned his advances and her friend Sunday evening, has been arrested, police said here Monday.

Manoj was arrested Sunday night from west Delhi.

The man allegedly threw acid on Parwati (18) and her friend Gayatri (16) in west Delhi's Begumpur area Sunday evening and fled.

"Manoj said that he was upset over repeated denial of his marriage proposal by Parwati. Sunday, when she again rejected his proposal, he threw acid on her in a state of fury," said an officer.

Gayatri, who was accompanying Parwati at the time of the attack, also received burn injuries.

"Parwati received around 50 percent burn injuries, while Gayatri suffered 20 percent burns. Both the girls are being treated in Baba Bhimrao Ambedkar Hospital where their condition is stated to be out of danger," said the officer.
