Mangalore, Apr 9: The union governments has implemented a plan to provide 12 crore school-children in the country with hot midday meals. This kind of an ambitious venture is nowhere in operation anywhere in the world, according to union minister Oscar Fernandes.

Speaking after laying the foundation stone for various developmental works to the extent of Rs 15 lacs in the campus of the Shambhur Government High School near here on Saturday, April 8 evening, Fernandes extolled the potential of the country's younger generation and sought added opportunities for them at the international level. He stressed on the importance of learning international language in this direction.

Vittal MLA K Padmanabha Kottary presided over the function. Zilla panchayat chairperson Mamata Gatti, ZP member Sadananda Malli, former MLA K M Ibrahim, Land Development Bank chairman Sudarshan Jain, DDPI Philomena Lobo, Blossom Fernandes, Bondala Jagannath Shetty, M A Gaffoor and others were present on the occasion.
