Bihar Police arrest massacre accused from Haryana

Patna, Nov 19 (IANS): Bihar Police Tuesday arrested from Haryana the main accused in the 2009 killing of 16 people, in what came to be known as the Amausi massacre case, a police official said.

Manoj Sada was arrested from Jhajjar district of Haryana by a Bihar Police team, Inspector General of Police (Operations) Amit Kumar told mediapersons here.

Amit Kumar said Sada was absconding after the incident and was wanted in the case as he was the prime accused.

"Sada was living in Haryana for the last few years to evade arrest," he said.

"Bihar Police have taken him on transit remand. He will be brought to Khagaria to be presented in the local court," Kumar said.

Sixteen people were killed in Amausi village Oct 2, 2009. A land dispute between Dalits and farmers was believed to be the reason behind the carnage.

According to district police, the killings were blamed on the outlawed Communist Party of India-Maoist.
