Mumbai, Apr 9: With the beginning of the Holy Week ahead of Easter, Palm Sunday was observed all over on April 9.
As in the other parts of the country, here too it was observed in all churches with traditional ceremonies.
Before his death by Crucifixion, as Jesus Christ entered Jerusalem, he had been cheered and welcomed by the citizens by waving the olive palms. To commemorate that event, Palm Sunday is observed all over the world by carrying palms on this day.
Raw palms are brought to the church on Palm Sunday, prayers are invoked and then they are distributed to the faithful to be taken home as tokens.
