Al Ain, UAE, April 10: Kannada Sangha – Alain Buraimi celebrated its 3rd Annual Day at the Indian Social Centre on March 24th, 2006.

The Programme was indeed a thumping success with every detail being seeing to with intimate perfection. Right from the very traditional back drop with the Dazzling Mysore Palace, to Arjuna of Yakshagana, Bharat natyam dances, Jog galls, the Magnificient Hampi Stone Chariot, the richness of the Kannada Culture was brought to light.

The Chief Guest for the event was  Gangaramani, a leading Indian businessman and were also present other Guests of Honour and Sponsors from all over the emirates. Gangaramani was honoured with the showering of flower petals, Mysore Peta, a Sandalwood garland and a shawl by the ISC Office bearers.



 
Dr. Swamy welcomed the gathering on behalf of Kannada Sangha. Mr. and Mrs. Arshad were felicitated on the occasion for their immense  contribution to Kannada culture  They have been teaching the Kannada languages in the Alain Junior school (which happens to be the only school outside India promoting the Kannada language) for the last 15 years. Mrs. Lobo, another teacher of the school who has also been teaching Kannada since the last 13 years was felicitated.




 
Kannadiga Students who excelled in their Academics or Sports were given special awards and certificates in acknowledgement of their brilliant performance and were goaded to grow to greater heights. This part of the programme was compered by the King of Kannada culture  Sarvottam Shetty who is currently the President of the Abu Dhabi  Kannada Sangha and a staunch supporter of Kannada language and culture.


 
An entertainment programme ensued. It was a variety of performances from the tiny tots, to the bubbly teens and also the dainty ladies and dashing men of the Al Aim Buraima Kannada community who all rendered mesmerizing performances.



 
The Varshikootsava evening ended  on “Sweet” note with the serving of traditional Karnataka food served in customary style.  To add to the flavour with a good mix of delicacies from North Kanara like Jawar Roti, Stuffed Baingan and Byadagi Red Chilly Chutney prepared by Dr. Uma Swamy and team.
