Four militants killed in Afghanistan

Kabul, Nov 20 (IANS): Four militants were killed in eastern Afghanistan's Wardak province, sources said Wednesday.

"Three Taliban militants were killed in an airstrike in Jaghato district and one militant was killed in a military operation in Nirkh district early Wednesday morning," Xinhua quoted the provincial government as stating in a press release.

In addition, more than six tons of explosive material was recovered by Afghan security forces in Darah-e-Kohna area of provincial capital Maidan Shar, some 35 km west of the country's capital Kabul, it noted.

The news came one day before a key meeting in Kabul.

The three-day Loya Jirga or grand assembly of tribal chieftains, notables and government functionaries which is getting under way Thursday with the participation of some 3,000 people, is set to discuss the proposed security pact known as Bilateral Security Agreement (BSA) between Kabul and Washington.
