Udupi, Nov 21: An accident between a lorry and a bike near Tenka Yermal gram panchayat office and UPCL pump house on national highway took the life of the bike rider.
The incident took place at around 6.15 pm on Wednesday November 20. The deceased has been identified as Padmanabh Acharya (58).
Padmanabh Acharya was riding towards his home when a lorry plying from Kerala to Hubli rammed into his bike from the rear end. Acharya was thrown off the bike and the lorry passed over him.
Padmanab Acharya by profession was a contractor engaged in building houses, commercial buildings and so on. Three months ago, he met with an accident when a car hit him and as a result, he was injured badly. After recovering from his injuries, he started riding a week ago, it is learnt.
He is survived by his wife, a son and three daughters.
Though Padubidri police rushed to the spot, it took almost an hour to shift the body. As 108 ambulance or other government ambulances do not have permission to shift the body, a private ambulance was called from Shirva.
Padubidri police inspector Ajmath opined that there is need for private ambulance service in Padubidri.
