Endangered geckos seized in Bengal

Kolkata, Nov 21 (IANS): Border Security Force personnel have seized 10 geckos - endangered lizards - valued at Rs.20 lakh each in the international market, from a border outpost in West Bengal's North 24 Parganas district, authorities said Thursday.

The geckos were being smuggled into neighbouring Bangladesh.

The geckos were seized Wednesday by BSF troops of the Haridaspur border outpost.

In September, the BSF had seized star tortoises valued at more than Rs.4 crore, from the same area.
