World Cup Kabaddi to offer Rs.6.67 crore prize money


Chandigarh, Nov 21 (IANS): The fourth edition of the World Cup Kabaddi (WCK) will see teams from 14 countries vying for prize money of Rs.6.67 crore, organisers said here Thursday.

The kabaddi cup, being organised by the Punjab government's sports department, will be held at multiple locations across Punjab from Nov 30 to Dec 14.

Twelve international men's teams and eight women's teams would be competing for the respective titles, a Punjab government spokesman said.

"Prize money for the women's title in WCK-2013 has been raised four times compared to the first edition. It will now be Rs.1 crore to the winner team. The prize money in the men's section would remain Rs.2 crore to the winning team," the spokesman said.

The teams finishing second and third in the men's section will get a prize money of Rs.1 crore and Rs.51 lakh. In the women's section, the teams will get Rs.51 lakh and Rs.25 lakh respectively.

"Teams from India, Pakistan, Iran, England, Spain, Denmark, Scotland, US, Canada, Argentina, Sierra Leone and Kenya would participate in the men's section, whereas in the women's section, teams from India, Pakistan, England, Denmark, US, Mexico, Kenya and New Zealand would participate," the spokesman said.

The opening ceremony of the event will be held Nov 30 in Bathinda town, 260 km from here. The closing ceremony will be held Dec 14 in Ludhiana, 110 km from here.
