Fair platform takes up girl child issues

New Delhi, Nov 21 (IANS): The girl child was the focus of attention at a special programme on children organised here.

'The Nari Ki Choupal' was also held as part of the Nov 14-29 'Vatsalya' (childhood) fair being held by the women and child development ministry, an official release said Thursday.

Village heads from seven states discussed declining child sex ratio, how to deal with the problem and various matters regarding the girl child, the release said.

Street plays, puppet shows, folk dances, movie screenings and poster making competitions were also held.

Some enthusiastic responses included a film on domestic violence, a fashion show featuring clothes made and worn by girls from disadvantaged backgrounds and a musical night on sanitation put up in collaboration with Sulabh International.
