New Delhi, Nov 22 (IANS): Black-and-white photographs of John F. Kennedy with Jawaharlal Nehru along with many rare and candid photographs from the assassinated US president's life have been put together in an exhibition here to mark his 50th death anniversary.

Kennedy was assassinated Nov 22, 1963 in Dallas.

Not following any chronological order, over 35 photographs displayed at the American Centre in the national capital throw light on his personal life and professional associations.

"It was very interesting and surprising to see such warm connection between Kennedy and Indian leaders at a time when relationship between the two countries weren't as close as they are today," American Centre director Natalia Susak told IANS.

"The frequency of contacts was amazing," Susak added.

Hence, as one browses, Kennedy's photographs with India's first prime minister Jawaharlal Nehru and second president S. Radhakrishnan at the White House reaffirm Susak's observation.

Another frame that grabs attention is Kennedy's wife Jacqueline celebrating the festival of colour - Holi - in India with Nehru in 1962.

"It wasn't just Kennedy, his family had formed close associations with Indian leaders. This is why we see his wife enjoying festive revelries with warmth," Susak said.

Some other photographs which captured important moments of Kennedy's life - his wedding picture, when he won the presidential election in 1961, connecting with people in rallies, enjoying a beach holiday with Jacqueline and two sons, and the rally where he was shot.

"We are not remembering his assassination by celebrating this day. What we are celebrating is his legacy and charisma," Susak said.

The exhibition is open for the public till Dec 28.
