Will fulfil promises: Rahul Gandhi in Madhya Pradesh

Mandsaur (Madhya Pradesh), Nov 22 (IANS): Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi Friday expressed confidence that his party would win the assembly elections in Madhya Pradesh and assured people attending a rally here that the Congress would fulfil its promises.

"We will form a government that works for the aam aadmi, dalits, adivasis, youth and women," Rahul Gandhi said at a rally in the tribal area of Mandsaur, a stronghold of the Bharatiya Janata Party, the ruling party in the state.

"The Congress does not believe in making tall promises. But whatever promises were made have been fulfilled over the years," he said.

Attacking the BJP government in the state, the Gandhi scion said the BJP, in the run-up to the 2008 assembly elections in the state, had promised to waive farm loans up to Rs.50,000 but that promise remained unfulfilled.

"These loans would be waived when the Congress comes to power in Madhya Pradesh after the Nov 25 elections," Gandhi said.

Stressing the importance of education, the Congress leader said India can claim to be a top rated power only when children from poor tribal families attend college and become entrepreneurs.
