Six-coach trains on Dilshad Garden-Rithala Metro line

New Dehi, Nov 23 (IANS): The Delhi Metro will run six-coach trains on the Dilshad Garden-Rithala line from Sunday, an official said.

"Six coach trains have a capacity of carrying around 600 more commuters than a four coach train. It is expected to boost the line's carrying capacity, which at present sees an average ridership of around 3.5 lakh daily," a DMRC official said Saturday.

The DMRC plans to introduce 10 six-coach trains on the line in a phased manner. This was earlier scheduled for next month, but was advanced to Sunday to ease passenger rush during the ongoing India International Trade Fair (IIFT) here, the official said.

DMRC introduced the first six-coach Metro train in 2010 on the Dwarka Sec-21-Noida City Centre/Vaishali line, and subsequently on the Jahangirpuri to HUDA City Centre line in 2011.

The Delhi Metro is used by around 2.5 million passengers on a working day on all its lines, which see more than 2,700 train trips made each day.
