Mangalore, Apr 12: A jatha to create awareness regarding the need of the proposed Nagarjuna Thermal Power Project at Yelluru-Nandikoor, will be shortly organized by the Karavali Karnataka Vikasa Vedike (KKVV), at Udupi.
Addressing a press meet here, Harish Puthran, president of the vedike, informed that nearly five thousand people from Udupi and Dakshina Kannada districts, are expected to participate in the jatha.
He said that availability of cheap power has paved the way for the progress of developed nations. Owing to shortage of power supply in Udupi and surrounding places, Small Scale Industries and agricultural sector have to face lot of problems. It has also resulted in lack of employment opportunities. Environment-friendly industries have to be backed by the support of the citizens, which would result in creating employment opportunities, he added.
Vice-president of the vedike Madhava Suvarna, said that industries should comply with environmental rules, and that it was the duty of the government to ensure this.
