Shoma meets NCW member over Tejpal case

New Delhi, Nov 28 (IANS): Tehelka's former managing editor Shoma Chaudhury Thursday met National Commission for Women (NCW) member Shamina Shafiq and briefed her about the magazine's response in dealing with the sexual assault case against its editor-in-chief Tarun Tejpal.

Chaudhury, who resigned as managing editor of Tehelka Thursday morning, later visited the NCW office and briefed Shafiq about Tehelka's response, official sources said.

Defending her actions over the Tehelka affair, Chaudhury told reporters that criticism of her actions was not fair.

"I had barely one and a half days to act. If looking back you say that I made mistakes, I accept and I apologise," she said.

Tejpal, accused of sexually assaulting a junior colleague, told Goa Police that he will appear before them Friday, after officials made it clear that they were ready to arrest him.

After first seeking two days more to reach Goa, Tejpal made a U-turn in the evening and informed the police by fax that he would reach Panaji Friday, police sources said.
