Mangalore, Apr 17: Five persons accused in the counterfeit currency case have been given jail term of 3 years each and fine of Rs 8,000 each by the district court.

Naseer, a resident of Yassen Compound of Kudroli, Mohammad Asif of Valencia, Jameer of Jeppu, Ramesh Jain of Rajasthan and Sayyad Ibrahim of Murudeshwar have been sentenced 3 years jail term and a fine of Rs 8,000 each by the district court.

Among the accused Ramesh Jain is still absconding.  Accordingly the court has issued a search warrant against him.

The police had arrested four of the accused during a raid on Hotel Intercity on March 20, 2002.  The police had seized 192 counterfeit currency notes of Rs 100 face value from them.  The then Pandeshwar sub-inspector Chandramohan had filed a case in this regard and inspector B J Bhandari had investigated the case.
