Mangalore, Apr 17 (7-50 pm): The driver of a white tourist Ambassador car (KA 19 M 5766), yet to be identified, was critically injured when his vehicle collided with a timber-laden lorry (KA 19 A 1574) near the Padil railway overbridge on NH 48 around 7-00 pm on Monday.

The collision took place when, according to eyewitnesses, the driver of the car tried to overtake another vehicle, as the timber-laden lorry moved reverse from the side into the road and rammed into the car. The top of the car was ripped off, grievously injuring the driver in the head. He was rushed to the Omega hospital.

The identity of the person is not immediately known. Eyewitnesses further said that the driver was alone and if there were any other passengers they too would have been casualties.
