Pakistan supports one-China policy: Senate chief


Islamabad, Dec 1 (IANS): Pakistan is supportive of one-China policy and backs Beijing on issues of Taiwan, Tibet, Xingiang and human rights, Pakistan Senate chairman Syed Nayyer Hussain Bukhari has said.

Bukhari said friendship with China is a cornerstone of Pakistan's foreign policy and the two countries enjoy unique relationship, Daily Times reported Sunday.

The senate chairman made the comments during a meeting with a visiting Chinese parliamentary delegation.

The delegation, headed by Shen Yueyue, vice chairperson of the standing committee of the National People's Congress, visited the National Institute of Folk and Traditional Heritage here Saturday.

"Pakistan seeks to promote closer collaboration with China especially in the fields of agriculture, irrigation, energy, railways and infrastructure development," Bukhari said.

He added that the solid foundation for "our time-tested and all-weather friendship is provided by strong mutual trust, excellent cooperation and convergence of views on regional and global issues".
