BSF recovers 14 kg heroin in Punjab

Amritsar, Dec 2 (IANS): The Border Security Force (BSF) recovered 14 kg of heroin along the India-Pakistan border in Punjab's Amritsar sector, BSF officials said Monday.

The heroin, valued Rs.70 crore ($11 million) was recovered near Dhariwal border out post (BOP), 35 km from here, late Sunday night.

The troopers were engaged in a gunbattle with the smugglers trying to bring the consignment into Indian territory from the Pakistan side, BSF sources said.

The BSF has recovered nearly 295 kg of heroin along the 553-km-long India-Pakistan border in Punjab this year. BSF had recovered over 288 kg heroin in the area in 2012.
