Udupi, Apr 18: The Nagarjuna Thermal Power Project is facing tough times as environmentalists are planning yet another protest against the setting up of the thermal project at Nandikur.
Angered by the support announced by Udupi district-in-charge minister V S Acharya to Nagarjuna Power Corporation Limited (NPCL), the Nagarjuna Vidyut Stavara Virodhi Samiti, an association of environmental groups and NGOs, is all set to challenge the project by launching a campaign to force the government to retract NPCL’s license.
According to Samiti chief convener K Somanath Nayak, a meeting of all the organizations has been called on April 27 in Udupi to discuss further steps. The organizations would be jointly holding a ‘Save Karavali’ movement to protest against the state government’s move to enforce ecologically harmful projects for the sake of development.
