Udupi, Dec 2: With regards to drastically increasing petty shops in the city, there was a high drama on use of the word ‘Peetha Patrike’ meaning yellow journalism, by the opposition party members at CMC meeting on Saturday November 30.

Under the presidentship of Yuvaraj, MPR stated the issue of petty shops and supporting it, Vasanthi Shetty of BJP said that the numbers of petty shops is increasing in the temple town and the new government is giving permission without any restrictions. She added that the previous BJP government planned to give permission for petty shops to physically challenged people and one of the Peetha Patrikes published an article criticizing it and the plan was dropped.

Ramesh Kanchan oppoed the use of the word and said it is an insult to the journalists, after which Congress men sought an explanation which created a big fuss. BJP members said that the issue is petty shop not yellow journalism and all the leaders boycotted the meeting.

There was also a dispute between the two parties regarding the ‘Udupi Utsav’  which will be inaugurated on December 1.  The opposition party members said that the councilors were not taken into confidence before forming the Udupi Utsav committee and so it was unofficial. Amrutha Krishnamoorthi said that from the past three years, the previous government was doing it the same way and they just followed it.

Srikanth, the commissioner of CMC, said that the Utsav committee and the CMC are two different bodies which have nothing to do with each other.

He also said that the BJP government is failed to produce profit and loss statement for the committee. M R Pai opposed the statement and said that they are not happy with the system with regards to Udupi Utsav committee and wanted to be out of it.
