Teenage girl consumes poison in school, dies

Gurgaon, Dec 3 (IANS): Four people were booked for abetment of suicide after a girl consumed poison in her school here Tuesday. She later died in a hospital, police said.

Ravinder, his father Puran, his friend Sonu and Sonu's father Suresh, all from Islampur village, were booked under sections 306 (abetment to suicide) and 34 (common intent) following a complaint by the victim's father.

Earlier in the day, Suman, 17, and a class 11 student at the Government Senior Secondary Girls' School in Jacubpura consumed poison in the educational premises.

In a complaint registered at the City Police Station, Suman's father Harish Chander said main accused Ravinder often chased his daughter on her way to school and home.

The school was nearly two kilometres from the victim's house, also in the same village.

The school principal Friday had warned the deceased against talking to Ravinder and asked the victim to bring her father to school.

On Tuesday, the victim and Ravinder reached school to apologise. However, the principal had called the police who arrested Ravinder, a BBA student.

A panicky Suman consumed poison and fainted. She later died at a private hospital.

"Suman and Ravinder were friends and used to often meet outside the school. Sonu used to accompany Ravinder," a police officer, who did not wish to be named, told IANS.

Incidentally, Ravinder too was carrying a poisonous substance but could not consume it because he was nabbed by the police.

"We have booked four people on the complaint of the victim's father and are investigating the matter further," Deputy Commissioner of Police (west) Surender Pal Singh said.

We are questioning the accused, he said.
