Delhi records 17 percent voting till 11 a.m.


New Delhi, Dec 4 (IANS): Delhi recorded 17 percent voting till 11 a.m. and polling is likely to pick up as the day progress, a statement by the State Election Commission said Wednesday.

"In the Delhi assembly election 2013, the turnout till 11 a.m. is around 17 percent," the statement said.

Vice President Hamid Ansari, Congress chief Sonia Gandhi, Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit, Aam Aadmi Party leader Arvind Kejriwal, BJP chief ministerial candidate Harsh Vardhan, Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi and his sister Priyanka Gandhi were among the early voters.

Voting began at 8 a.m. to decide the fate of 810 candidates contesting for the 70-member Delhi assembly.
