Delhi court pulls up Gujarat Police in Narayan Sai case

New Delhi, Dec 4 (IANS): A Delhi court Wednesday pulled up Gujarat Police for coming unprepared while seeking transit remand of spiritual guru Asaram Bapu's son Narayan Sai, accused in a rape case in Surat.

The court of Metropolitan Magistrate Dheeraj Mor noted that Gujarat Police were not able to produce relevant documents related to the case on time.

The court said it shows Gujarat Police in a bad state while handling a high-profile case.

The court asked police to show a statement by a witness that made the allegations against Narayan Sai's aide Ramesh Malhotra.

Even the case diary was not updated, the court observed.

The court warned Gujarat Police that it will not sign the order unless they submit scanned copies of the documents.

"Technology has become advanced, then also you fail to bring the documents," the court said after police said they submitted the files in Surat and the fax machine was not working in their office.

However, by evening, Gujarat Police managed to submit scanned documents to the court, a defence counsel told IANS.
